Privacy

We try to learn as little about you as we can. This page says what the site does, and it is checked against the code every time the site is built.

What we do not do

Remembering your choices (only if you say yes)

On your first visit we ask one question: may this device remember your choices? It starts off. “Accept all” and “Reject all” are the same size, and you can change your answer any time with “Privacy choices” at the bottom of every page.

What is kept
The need you picked, how you ranked it, the tool you told us you use now, and light or dark if you tapped the theme button (tp-theme). Nothing else.
Where
In this browser's local storage, under tp-saved-choices. It is never sent to us or to anyone else.
How long
12 months, or until you say no, tap “Forget it”, or clear your browser.
Your answer
We keep your yes or no under tp-consent, so we do not ask again. It holds the answer and the date only, and it is asked again after 12 months.
If you say no
Anything saved before is deleted at once. The site works the same; your choice stays in the page address only.

Not used on this site at all, so there is nothing to turn on: cookies, IP storage, fingerprinting, third-party trackers such as Google Analytics, and session replay.

Email alerts (only if you sign up)

Under your top 3 you can ask for an email when a price changes, or one reminder about your shortlist. Both start unticked, and nothing is sent until you confirm by email.

What we keep
Your email address, what you ticked, your shortlist (category and tools), the date you signed up and confirmed, and which version of the form wording you agreed to.
Who sends it
Resend, our email service, receives your address and the email to deliver it. Its own privacy policy applies to that.
What we do not do
No tracking pixels, no link tracking, no opens or clicks recorded, no IP address. We never sell or share your address.
How long
Until you unsubscribe (one click in every email). Unconfirmed sign-ups are deleted after 7 days. After you unsubscribe we keep only a one-way hash of the address, so we never email it again by mistake.

Page views

This site does not count page views at all. It loads no scripts from other websites.

Clicks on vendor links

Buttons that lead to a vendor go through our own address, /go/. We add one row for each click: which tool, which page, which spot on the page, your country, and the time. We do not write your IP address or browser details in that row. We delete these rows after about 13 months.

We do not read your IP address, and we make no code or fingerprint from it or from your browser. So if you click the same link twice, we count two clicks.

Other parties

Who is responsible, and your rights

ToolsProof is run by John. It decides how the data above is used.

You can ask us to show, correct or delete what we hold about you. In practice that is only your email address, if you signed up for alerts. What this device remembers, you can delete yourself with “Privacy choices”.

Email John@toolsproof.com. We reply within one month. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
